Hint for Naming FeP Metal (Fe) + Non-metal (P) = Binary Ionic
Fe is a transition metal, so ...
- Name the metal as it appears on the Periodic Table.
- Name the non-metal (Phosphorus) by replacing the orus with ide.
- Look at the chemical formula to find the charge for Fe. Since P has an ionic charge of -3, Fe will have to have a charge of +3 (so the net charge for the compound is zero). To show that we write (III) after the name for Fe.
